2019 NHL Draft in Vancouver Adds Millions to Local Economy

The NHL Draft took place in Vancouver June 21-22, 2019. This was the third time the draft took place in Vancouver with the Vancouver Canucks as official host team. Vancouver last hosted the NHL Entry Draft in 2006 and 1990.

The event brought big economic spinoff to the region, estimated between $8 million to $10 million overall.

As part of a legacy of the 2019 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship hosted in Rogers Arena at the start of the year,  this NHL Draft is a full circle for many of the participants who competed here on Boxing Day. Overall number 1pick, Jack Hughes of the USA, competed to a silver medal finish at the 2019 World Juniors and overall number 2 pick Kappo Kakko of Finland was on the Gold Medal winning squad beating out the USA on January 5th.
